High Commissioner’s appeal on National Flag Day

Dear friends!
Today we celebrate nationwide the National Flag Day — a special holiday full of meaning and history. The flag is not just a combination of colors, it is a symbol of the country, the Motherland and the unity of people.
Many different meanings are attributed to the colors of the Russian flag. White, blue and red sum up nobility, fidelity and courage corresponding. We can safely say that all citizens of the Russian Federation have these qualities: our ancestors have proved it in times of war and riots, and it is important for us not to lose that prowess, the desire for justice and mercy that we have in our blood.
Russia today faces many obstacles and difficulties, but it does not stop us. We are moving forward in spite of everything: the revival of industry and agriculture, dozens of discoveries in physics, astronomy, cybersecurity, mathematics, the Winter Olympics and the Paralympics in Sochi.
Today, no one will dispute the fact that Russia plays one of the leading roles in the world diplomatic and political arena, and the Russian language expands its geography every year.
I sincerely send to all of you my greetings on the occasion, let peace and prosperity reign in your homes!
High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation
