High Commissioner met with representatives of public human rights institutions of Uzbekistan

On 19 October, High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Tatiana Moskalkova arrived in Tashkent (the Republic of Uzbekistan) with an official visit.
On the first day of the visit Tatiana Moskalkova met with Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Muhammadiev and Director of the National Human Rights Centre Akmal Saidov. The meetings will contribute to the development of new directions of cooperation in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms, as well as
The High Commissioner and her counterparts agreed to renew the cooperation agreement and to carry out joint research project in the field of human rights institutions’ development. The parties expressed their willingness to conduct joint open office hours for citizens by videoconferencing and to vitalise international cooperation programmes’ activities.
It is expected that the agreement will provide for that the parties will cooperate in the field of protection of Russian and Uzbekistan nationals’ human rights and freedoms and timely notify each other in case of their violation. In addition, the agreement stipulates mutual assistance in extending cooperation with international ombudsman institutions and other international organisations.
