High Commissioner handed over lists in defense of the rights of Russian citizens in Syria to the International Committee of the Red Cross

On June 16, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova held a working meeting with Head of ICRC’s Delegation in Syria Philip Spoerri.
Tatiana Moskalkova told about the number and subjects of the received appeals, including requests for the search for relatives and humanitarian assistance to persons in prison. Since the beginning of 2017, 776 such requests have been received.
In June, the High Commissioner was approached by mothers asking me to help to clear up the fate of their children who had left Russia, presumably for Syria and other neighboring countries. Relatives cannot receive any information about health status of their children and grandchildren. During the reception, appeals were received to protect the rights of 118 Russians, of whom 49 are missing, and 69 are in camps and prisons in Syria and Iraq.
The Russian Commissioner handed over this list to Mr. Spoerri and asked him to assist in the search for the missing citizens, as well as to provide the necessary humanitarian assistance to the prisoners.
