High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Tatiana Moskalkova held working meeting with Commissioner in Oryol Region Alexander Labeykin

Commissioner for Human Rights in Oryol Region spoke about the results secured in the matter of human rights and liberties protection, and the priority issues to be addressed. The fact that Oryol Region, in contrast to many other regions, has managed to solve the problem of housing for orphan children should be mentioned as an obvious achievement. It became possible due to the efficient coordination of efforts of the Commissioner and local authorities. At the same time, Alexander Labeykin expressed concern in connection with pardon issues. He reported that during the last 10 years only two persons had been granted clemency in his region. Environmental problems, including the quality of drinking water, are also difficult to deal with. Drug addiction, especially among the younger generation, remains a serious problem. However, specific measures are taken in the region in order to address these problems.
Tatiana Moskalkova appreciated the high efficiency of the Oryol Region human rights protection institution and supported Alexander Labeykin in his determination to further fruitfully work as the regional Commissioner.
