2d day of High Commissioner's visit to Strasbourg

On January 31, during the second day of a working visit to Strasbourg, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova met with Council of Europe Director General of Democracy Snežana Samardžić-Marković.

During the conversation, Tatiana Moskalkova drew the attention of Snežana Samardžić-Marković to the need to improve legal mechanisms aimed at preventing the social injustice against women.

Tatiana Moskalkova and the Director General of Democracy discussed positive changes in the field of the protection of women’s rights in Russia. In particular, work is underway to adopt a law on the prevention of domestic violence, additional protection mechanisms have been adopted for mothers with young children, special attention is paid to children with disabilities.

Russian ombudswoman also spoke at the presentation of the book by President of the European Court of Human Rights Linos-Alexandre Sicilianos.

Tatiana Moskalkova noted the importance of the experience of European legal education in the field of human rights protection.

High Commissioner also took part in the opening ceremony of a seminar dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights. The seminar touched upon the further development of international human rights instruments, the significance and prospects of multilateral cooperation in this area.

"The Convention is one of the most important international documents that has launched numerous positive changes and has contributed to raising the standards of human rights protection around the world. 830 million people in 47 countries of Europe are under protection of this important European document," Russian ombudswoman noted.

At the end of the visit Tatiana Moskalkova participated in the opening ceremony of the ECHR judicial year.
