Tula Commissioner visited elections in Bogoroditsk

From 8 o’clock in the morning — immediately after the polling stations opened for the elections of deputies of the local self-government representative body in Bogoroditsk — Commissioner for Human Rights in the Tula region Galina Fomina has been observing the voting process. By noon, the Ombudsperson visited 7 polling stations.

The day before, in Kharkov, human rights commissioners Ella Pamfilova and Valeriya Lutkovskaya at their meeting with people told that the memorandum of aid to civilians and creation of humanitarian passage routes had been signed. Those passage routes, which were to be opened by the Ukrainian authorities, and of which the people in the thick of the events remained unaware.

Ella Pamfilova has been holding the office of the human rights commissioner for a bit more than two months and it’s the first time within the office when she meets with the president. Right from the start she underscores an alarming problem – an increasing flow of refugees from Ukraine. Not only the Russian border regions are receiving the neighbours. The whole country must be ready to lend a helping hand.
