September 10, 2017, on a single voting day, gubernatorial elections in the city of Sevastopol will take place. This event is of special significance for the citizens: in the Ukrainian period they could not directly elect the mayor, executive officers were appointed by Kiev. During the «Russian Spring» and after reunification with Russia, the idea of the local chief executive officers electing was one of the basic requirements of the citizens of Sevastopol. Therefore, the upcoming elections are historic for the city. For the first time Sevastopol residents will be able to directly elect the city Governor on the basis of equal and direct elections by secret ballot.
The issues of observance and protection of citizens’ electoral rights of the Russian Federation are one of the prioritized activities of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Bryansk region.
On August 22, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Krasnodar Territory Sergey Myshak, and chairperson of the election commission of the Krasnodar Territory Aleksei Chernenko signed a joint open appeal on ensuring the implementation of citizens' electoral rights during the election of deputies to the Legislative Assembly of Krasnodar Region, local self-government bodies appointed on September 10, 2017.
On August 16, a presentation of the collective monograph "Formation and development of the institution of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Perm Krai" was organized, initiated and created with the participation of regional Commissioner Tatiana Margolina. The Commissioner in the Perm Krai gave an interview to the regional media.
