Urgent statement of the Russian Ombudswoman Tatiana Moskalkova with regard to the detention of correspondent Kirill Vishinsky in Ukraine

Urgent statement of the Russian Ombudswoman Tatiana Moskalkova with regard to the detention of correspondent Kirill Vishinsky in Ukraine

Lately, functioning of the Russian media in the Republic of Ukraine has been disproportionately restricted numerous times. Last week the Ukrainian Border Service detained correspondents of the First channel and VGTRK Valentina Solovyova and Olga Yureva, as well as expelled them with the prohibition of 3-years-long re-entry only in connection with their intention to report activities dedicated to the 9th of May.

On the morning of 15 May 2018, representatives of the Ukrainian Security Service carried out a search in a news agency "RIA Novosti Ukraine" in Kiev, resulting in the arrest of correspondent Kirill Vishinsky for alleged "involvement in the activities of media corporations, being controlled by the Russian Federation".

It is worth noting that from the early morning there is a lack of contact with the representatives of the news agency.

In this regard, I respectfully request you to take all appropriate measures in order to provide journalists with an opportunity to undertake their professional activities, as well as to ensure the safety of Kirill Vishinsky according to the universally recognized principles and rules of international law.
