Urgent Statement by the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation

Urgent Statement by the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation

Good news from overseas: Maria Butina was transferred to a general regime of detention.

Now she is allowed to walk in the open air, use the gym, and, most importantly, communicate with others, because before this decision, Maria spent 35 days in solitary confinement.

I think that this is the end of the first stage of the struggle for total liberation of our compatriot, which is actively conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the High Commissioner for Human Rights and all people in Russia and abroad who care.

I continue to closely monitor the fate of Maria Butina and do my best for her early release and homecoming.

Thus, our joint work with Turkish Ombudsman Seref Malcoc under the Memorandum of Cooperation, signed in March…

I welcome this balanced and consistent decision of the European parliamentarians, which is not only the affirmation of the unity and indivisibility of human rights geography, but also…

I received an appeal from Russian citizen Vladimir Lazarev in defense of the rights of his daughter Maria Lazareva, detained by the State of Kuwait authorities on suspicion of complicity to the theft from local government funds in November 2017. In May 2018, the Supreme Court of Kuwait found Maria Lazareva guilty of the crime charged against her and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in a local…
