Statement by High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation

27 June 2019
Statement by High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation

On June 26, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a resolution that finally canceled the unfair decision of five years ago to confirm the authority of the Russian delegation to the PACE.

I welcome this balanced and consistent decision of the European parliamentarians, which is not only the affirmation of the unity and indivisibility of human rights geography, but also the key to the progressive development of one of the most authoritative international discussion platforms.

The full and unconditional participation of Russia’s representatives in the work of the Council of Europe bodies will contribute to democracy, the rule of law, human rights protection, and also promote peace and good-neighbourliness between European States.
