High Commissioner asked US Attorney General to extradite Yaroshenko to Russia

On May 23, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova addressed US Attorney General William Barr with a request for extradition of Russian citizen Konstantin Yaroshenko to his homeland.

Dear Mr. Barr,

I hereby present my compliments to you.

Currently, the US Department of Justice is considering the extradition request from the Russian Ministry of Justice with regard to the Russian citizen Konstantin Yaroshenko under the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons as of 1983. Mr. Yaroshenko was sentenced in 2011 to 20 years imprisonment in a medium security facility and has been serving his sentence in the US Federal Correctional Institution, Danbury.

Taking into account the humanitarian considerations of the case I am kindly asking you to show good will and favorably consider the extradition of Mr. K. Yaroshenko to Russia, bearing in mind the long term he has already served in detention and his progressive health deterioration. It should be also mentioned that in April this year Mr. Yaroshenko had undergone a surgery to remove several benign tumors.

For my part, I wish to assure you that your act of humanity will be appreciated not only by the sentenced Russian citizen, but also by the Russian people.

I would appreciate if you could inform me about the made decision.
