Thanks to High Commissioner, defendant and his father were saved

19 November 2018

With the assistance of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, it was possible to change the preventive measure for the defendant from arrest to signed acknowledgement of travel restrictions.

The High Commissioner was requested by the public monitoring committee of the Republic of Adygea with a request to change the measure of restraint to the defendant T., who needs treatment, because stay in the detention centre could cause irreparable harm to his health. In addition, the 81-year-old father of citizen T. is a disabled person of the 2nd group who needs constant care.

Having carefully studied the situation, on the instructions of the federal Ombudsman, the representative of the High Commissioner together with the PMC of the Republic of Adygea conducted a coordinated work. As a result, defendant T. was released in court with signed acknowledgement of travel restrictions.

Thus, citizen T. was given the necessary treatment, and his father received the help of his son in the form of social services and support.

In turn, the PMC of the Republic of Adygea sent letter to the High Commissioner:

Dear Tatiana Nikolaevna!

Let me express sincere gratitude to you and your Office for quick, fair decisions, responsiveness and humanity, as well as hope for further fruitful work to protect the rights of man and citizen.

The police initiated criminal proceedings, but the process was…

Perhaps one of the most difficult tasks in my work is to protect our compatriots abroad. Indeed, each country has its laws, its rules, and compromise can only be achieved through dialogue. I received an appeal from a citizen of the Russian Federation who married on the territory of Kyrgyzstan. The circumstances were such that the couple divorced (also outside our country)…
