Guilty staff member dismissed, others to be inspected

15 June 2015

On 15 June, the Prosecutor’s Office of Saint Petersburg reported dismissal of a staff member of the office following an infringement of the terms established by law for consideration of the High Commissioner’s requests. In addition, due to the violation of the terms for consideration of a High Commissioner’s request related to protection of labour rights of Ms K., an official inspection is to be held at the office.

In late November last year, the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia addressed the city prosecutor’s office of Saint Petersburg with a request to inspect the case of Ms K., employed by the United Service Company which had failed to pay out due salary to her. The above request was passed to the prosecutor’s district office, which ascertained that the complainant’s rights could be implemented through the courts. Ms K. was informed of the above by an individual letter, while the High Commissioner, whose Office follows all requests from citizens, did not receive any reply.
