On February 19, topical issues of observance of constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens in the territory of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) were discussed during the meeting of head of the republic Aisen Nikolayev with regional Commissioner for Human Rights Sardana Guryeva.
The ombudswoman informed the head of the republic about the state of affairs and voiced the provisions of the ad hoc report of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) on the protection of the rights of elderly people living alone and living alone in the republic. This document examines the problems of the realization of the rights of solitary elderly people and living alone people and gave examples of the human rights practice in relation to this category of persons. Sardana Gurieva also proposed the organization of systemic work to identify citizens in need and provide them with the necessary assistance.
Another matter of discussion was the draft federal law «On General Principles for Organizing the Activities of Commissioners for Human Rights in the Constituent Entities of the Russian Federation», which is currently being considered at the federal level. The bill aims to expand the functions of regional ombudsmen, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their activities.
