Vulnerable groups’ bankruptcy procedure must be flexible and individual

10 April 2015

On 8 April, Commissioner for Human Rights in Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Sevastyanov announced the above at the discussion platform ‘Corporate Disputes. Bankruptcy according to the New Rules’ within the framework of the 8th Annual South Ural Legal Forum ‘New Legal System of Russia: Reload of Lawyers 2015’.

"It is crucial that the bankruptcy law in relation to the individuals be implemented individually," Alexey Sevastyanov said. "Each application from a citizen should be meticulously considered by the authorities. In case of an individual’s bankruptcy, special attention should be drawn to the disabled, families with many children, and families with ill children."

A new federal law on bankruptcy is to come into force from 1 July 2015. At present, the regional citizens’ debt to the banks is more than 280 billion roubles. A bankruptcy-proving mechanism is provided for those who are unable to repay their debts.
