Upwards of 2,200 prisoners set free under Victory Day amnesty

More than 2,200 inmates have been released as part of an amnesty proclaimed in the honor of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, acting deputy head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Valery Maksimenko told during press conference.

2,236 convicts had walked free under the amnesty as of May, 6, Maksimenko told reporters. He reminded that the amnesty will span a six-month period. Up to 60,000 inmates are to be released from prison under the amnesty, Maksimenko added.
