Nizhny Novgorod Commissioner’s initiative supported by regional Legislative Assembly

Having considered the collective complaint from residents of the city of Sarov about alcohol trade near an art school and a Center for extracurricular activities, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Nizhny Novgorod Region initiated amendments to federal legislation. The relevant committee of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region decided on the need to develop a legislative initiative and send it to the State Duma of the Russian Federation for consideration.

The Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region held a working group meeting on the improvement of legislation in the sphere of production and circulation of alcohol and alcohol-containing products. During the meeting, the participants discussed the reasonableness of developing the legislative initiative to impose a ban on the retail sale of alcoholic beverages including while providing catering services in the territories adjacent to the buildings owned and used by additional education organizations. In addition, experts considered the possibility of banning the sale of alcoholic beverages during mass events.

According to the results of the meeting, the Nizhny Novgorod deputies made a positive decision about the need to develop a legislative initiative by the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and refer it to the State Duma for consideration.
