Visit to detained journalists Mukhin and Sokolov

On 14 August, representatives of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia visited journalists Yuriy Mukhin and Alexander Sokolov in the Pre-Trial Detention Centre No. 2 of the Moscow Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.

The data collected during the visit are being studied by the High Commissioner to determine what possible actions could be taken with the mandate.

Thus, for instance, a staff member of the High Commissioner’s Office is about to attend a trial in Khamovnicheskiy District Court on 17 and 20 August. On these dates, the court will consider Yuriy Mukhin’s lawyer petition against an investigator’s order to recuse him and initiate a criminal case.

During the visit the remand detainees did not submit any complaints about their detention conditions. The health status of Yuriy Mukhin and Alexander Sokolov is satisfactory.

Observance of rights of the detained is under control of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia.
