VI Annual Christmas parliamentary meetings

On January 25, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova took part in the VI Annual Christmas parliamentary meetings within the framework of the XXVI International Christmas Educational Readings on the subject of «Moral values and Future of Humanity».

"Christmas parliamentary meetings represent that the dialogue, collaboration of Russian government institutions with the Russian Orthodox Church are an integral part of the development of our civil society, the country as a whole," Chairperson of the Council of the Federation Valentina Matvienko said, opening the plenary session.

In turn, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia noted the importance of such meetings on the platforms of the Council of the Federation and the State Duma, because «they afford representatives of legislative authorities and the Church the opportunity to exchange views on the most pressing issues».

Large families support act was one of the most important issues of the meeting. Parliamentarians supported the proposal of Patriarch Kirill to draft and adopt legislation. The legislation affects additional benefits and payments, land plot allocation and other measures to support families with children, which are now regulated by a number of acts.

As Valentina Matvienko noted, «it is necessary to analyze the sufficiency of these measures and to collect them into one act to make measures to support large families systemic».

At the end of the meeting, Patriarch Kirill and Valentina Matvienko awarded the winners of the International children creativity contest «The Beauty of God’s World» and the contest «100th anniversary of the Patriarchal enthronement of St Tikhon of Moscow and the All-Russian Local Council».
