Verification of data on soldiers’ deaths goes on

03 October 2014

Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Ella Pamfilova has in due time received a response from the Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office related to the examination of deaths and detention of Russian servicemen.

The letter received says, “In relation to the facts of servicemen’s deaths listed in the application, verifications are being held in accordance with the established criminal procedure regulations.

The Military Prosecutor’s Office authorities have established control over legitimacy of these verifications and observance of the laws on rights and social benefits to family members of the dead servicemen.”

The Commissioner has taken this issue under her personal control.

It is to be reminded that on 28 August 2014 Ms Pamfilova sent an official application to Chief Military Prosecutor Sergei Fridinskiy with a request to verify the reports on deaths and detention of Russian servicemen, published in some media outlets.
