On April 26, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova takes part in the Second Forum of the National Preventive Mechanism «Preventing torture through the joint efforts of national human rights institutions and the national preventive mechanism (NPM) by the invitation of Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Shakirov.
The aim of the event is to share knowledge and practical skills in monitoring places of detention and imprisonment and take stock of the work of the regional groups of the NPM in 2017.
The High Comissioner presented her work in the field of protecting the rights of convicts and defendants, gave examples of applications, told about her proposals to improve legislation on human rights and about interaction with civil society institutions.
The second forum of the National Preventive Mechanism is held in Astana on April 26–27.
