Tatiana Moskalkova submitted letters to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in defense of Russian citizens

On March 5, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova held the meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet in the framework of Geneva official visit.

During the meeting, Tatiana Moskalkova submitted the letter in defense of journalist Kirill Vyshinsky. According to the High Commissioner, Vyshinsky did not commit anything illegal, but was engaged only in his professional journalistic activities. The situation had negative effect on his health — during court session he fell sick, had to get an ambulance, however, even taking into account his state of health, the Ukrainian authorities are not ready to replace detention in custody to house arrest. The High Commissioner hopes that Michelle Bachelet would pay attention to Kirill Vyshinsky’s fate and assist in independent investigation of his case.

The High Commissioner also drew attention to the tragedy, which resulted in death of the Russian citizen, Valery Ivanov, who previously had been detained in prison in Ukraine. Relatives want to establish the circumstances of his death and do not believe the Ukrainian authorities, which stated that was an accident. The position of people in the penitentiary system of Ukraine is unsafe.

Tatiana Moskalkova considers ban on entry to Ukraine for men, citizens of the Russian Federation, aged 18–60 years, as unprecedented restriction since many of them have families and work there.

Citizens of Ukraine also adress her because they would like to participate in the upcoming presidential elections, but the polling stations in Russia will be closed.

"Thanks to cooperation with the European Ombudsman Institute, we managed to return 7 Russian sailors to their homeland and 7 Ukrainian sailors returned to their homes. Now I provide assistance to those sailors who violated the Russian border during the incident in the Kerch Strait, we examine them in civil medical institutions", — Tatiana Moskalkova added.

The High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation also spoke about the emergency state of health of Alexander Vinnik, accused by three countries of committing crimes related to crypto currency. Alexander had been detained in Greece while on holiday with his family on a request for extradition to one of the countries, he consented to extradition to Russia, but in fact he was not extradited anywhere.

"He went on hunger strike as a protest, I personally visited him in Athens and saw his condition. His wife is dying. I ask help to extradite him to Russia so that he could be closer to his family", — Tatiana Moskalkova said.

I welcome the decision of the Podolsky court of Kiev, which today has released Kirill Vyshinsky from detention under personal guarantee. I think this decision is fair, devoid of political undertones. This gives hope for a further objective examination of the journalist’s case. I congratulate Kirill, his relatives, friends and all those helping his release!
