Tatiana Moskalkova participated in "Returning the Names" event

On October 29, on the eve of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova participated in the «Returning the Names» event at the Solovetsky Stone on Lubyanka Square.

Tatiana Moskalkova read aloud the stories of people shot during the years of Soviet repression. In addition, the High Commissioner emphasized the importance of the memorable date. According to the federal ombudswoman, human rights and freedoms are inviolable.

"Today, for the 13th time, we gather at the Solovetsky stone as a symbol of sorrow, memory and repentance in order to remember those people who became the victims of repression in the 30-50s. Now it is very important to understand that any derogation from the law can inevitably lead to dangerous phenomena. Violation of rights, disrespect for human dignity are the most terrible crimes. Today, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation and my colleagues do their best to ensure that no cases of disrespect for a person held in a pre-trial detention facility or in a colony remain unpunished," Tatiana Moskalkova said.

The "Returning the Names" event was first held 12 years ago. Indifferent people read aloud the names of the dead, lay flowers at the memorial, light candles.
