Tatiana Moskalkova met with CoE Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović

On January 30, in Strasbourg, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova met with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović.

During the conversation, Tatiana Moskalkova told Dunja Mijatović about the results of her activities. The High Commissioner noted that the work on human rights education of citizens has been intensified, as a result of which 28 legal education projects have been implemented.

More than 40 proposals have been prepared to amend legislation, many of which related to the implementation of the ECHR decisions.

In the field of international cooperation, 22 agreements have been concluded on cooperation with ombudsmen of foreign countries, collaboration is being expanded within the framework of the Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance, established in 2017.

During the conversation, the Russian ombudswoman paid special attention to protecting the rights of Russian citizens abroad. Tatiana Moskalkova drew the attention of Dunja Mijatović to the violation of the rights of citizen of the Russian Federation Alexander Vinnik. Federal ombudswoman addressed the CoE Commissioner requesting to restore the violated rights of the Russian citizen.

Discussing the issue of Russian news agency Sputnik in Estonia, Dunja Mijatović said that the Council of Europe expected to receive information from the Estonian government. In addition, Tatiana Moskalkova raised the issue of limitations and restrictions on Russian journalists’ activities in Ukraine.

In conclusion, Tatiana Moskalkova and Dunja Mijatović thanked each other for constructive interaction and outlined a plan for further cooperation in the field of protecting human rights and freedoms.
