Tatiana Moskalkova: Trial conformed to rules of national and international law

The court session on the case of RIA Novosti Ukraine news agency Chief Editor Kirill Vyshinsky is over. The Criminal Court of Cassation of the Supreme Court of Ukraine referred to the Joint Cassation Division of this court the case on the illegality of the journalist’s detention in May 2018.

"This is a very important positive court decision, which will allow to address the case more objectively and comprehensively. It may even create a precedent including changes to the legislation with regard to many other people in the same situation," High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova commented the court decision.

The federal ombudswoman noted that she was pleased with the outcome of the court session. According to Tatiana Moskalkova, the trial conformed to the rules of national and international law.

Kirill Vyshinsky called the court’s decision "a small victory" and noted that "any association would declare the case illegal".
