Tatiana Moskalkova: hotline starts working in run-up to 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

On May 31, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova participated in a round table discussion "Promoting diversity and creation of a non-discriminatory environment in Russian host cities during and after 2018 FIFA World Cup".

Tatiana Moskalkova noted the importance of holding the World Cup in Russia.
"Today the perception of human rights is seen through the prism of the events. The upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia is not just a competition, but an opportunity to prove ourselves as a gracious host, demonstrating to all the world stability of interethnic and interreligious climate in our country", — the ombudswoman said.

According to Tatiana Moskalkova, prevention of various forms of discrimination is one of the main areas of work during the period of the World Cup in all Russian host cities.

"It is very important that all guests and participants of the competition will be protected from any possible manifestations of discrimination", — the federal ombudswoman noted.

In addition, Tatiana Moskalkova brought into focus that all Russian ombudspersons would be aimed at ensuring tolerance in the country, patience and respect between residents and guests of the country to prevent any form of discrimination.

"All the human rights commissioners in the Russian Federation co-operate to make the best effort to counteract racism and discrimination", — the federal ombudswoman said.

Tatiana Moskalkova also announced the creation of the hotline in the High Commissioner’s Office for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

"We open hotlines today. The line will also be opened in the office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights", — the federal ombudswoman said.

The World Cup starts soon and we have a lot of work to do. I am convinced that each of us will be able to contribute to the a common cause, as well as to gain tremendous experience that we put in the basis of the document on the legacy of the World Cup in the form of methods and recommendations to prevent manifestations of racism in sports», — Tatiana Moskalkova said, concluding the speech.
