Hunger strike of Andrey Krekov in Arkhangelsk Region not confirmed

11 August 2015

The information about violation of rights of a prisoner, Andrey Krekov, reported in the mass media, had been investigated from 4 to 6 August.

By the moment the prisoner was visited by a staff member of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia in the Pre-Trial Detention Centre No. 4 of the Arkhangelsk Region Directorate of the FPS of Russia, he had already stopped his hunger strike. No violations of the prisoner’s rights have been found out during the investigation.

The discussion with Andrey Krekov ascertained that he was mistaken about his sentence, since he thought the court delivered a judgement on a change of his pre-trial restriction, but not a sentence. He was explained some provisions of the penal legislation, including those related to a criminal trial, the contents of the court judgements, and an appeal procedure against a sentence of a court of the first instance.

Andrey Krekov did not submit any complaints about conditions of his detention in the centre.

The representative of the High Commissioner also visited another convict, Ilya Azovskiy, detained in the Pre-Trial Detention Centre No. 1 of the Arkhangelsk Region Directorate of the FPS of Russia. He was provided with legal advice.
