High Commissioner’s working visit to Geneva

On February 21, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova arrived on a working visit to Geneva.

The High Commissioner will participate in a number of events of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) Annual Conference from 21 to 23 February.

Ombudspersons from more than 100 human rights institutions will discuss a wide range of issues related to the protection of human rights and freedoms. This year the conference is focused on protection of elderly people and persons with disabilities.

On February 21, Tatiana Moskalkova will participate in the meeting of European Network of NHRI members and hold a number of working meetings with representatives of international organizations and ombudspersons from foreign countries.

On February 22 and 23, Tatiana Moskalkova will share experience and best practices with foreign colleagues within the framework of GANHRI Annual Conference. She will also speak about problems related to the protection of persons with disabilities and older people rights by the High Commissioner of Human Rights in the Russian Federation.

GANHRI was established in 1993 as independent body to promote and strengthen National Human Rights Institutions to be in accordance with the Paris Principles. The Alliance is a unique platform that provides an opportunity for ombudspersons from all regions to exchange experience on the most pressing issues of human rights protection.

On June 16, in Omsk, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova together with the acting Consul — Head of the Consulate of Ukraine in Novosibirsk Oleg Finogenov visited Dmitry Shtyblikov, who is serving a sentence in the correctional colony No. 6 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for Omsk Region.

On June 15, in Yekaterinburg Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova together with Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Ponomarev participated in the Coordinating Council of the Commissioners for Human Rights of the Urals Federal District dedicated to protecting the rights of citizens to timely and full payment of wages.
