High Commissioner took part in meeting held by Civic Chamber of Russian Federation

On 11 January, High Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Tatiana Moskalkova took part in a meeting of a working group for formation, interaction and increase of effectiveness of Russian public monitoring commissions. The working group has been formed at the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.

Discussion of additional intake of PMC members taking into account opinion of human rights community was a key topic of the meeting.

The participants discussed amendments to Federal Law No. 76-FZ as of 10 June 2008 On Public Control Over Respect for Human Rights at Places of Detention and Assistance to Persons Held at Places of Detention to establish the procedure of additional nomination of candidatures to the composition of a public monitoring commission at a constituent entity of the Russian Federation, if the number of members fixed by a council of the Civic Chamber for a corresponding constituent entity of the Russian Federation allows it to appoint additional candidatures.
