High Commissioner met with CoE and ECHR representatives in Strasbourg

On March 27, during the working visit to Strasbourg, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova held several meetings with representatives of the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights.

Tatiana Moskalkova and Council of Europe’s Deputy Secretary General Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni discussed the development of the Russian Federation and the Council of Europe joint project "Co-operation on the implementation of the Russian Federation National Action Strategy for Women (2017–2022)".

Tatiana Moskalkova shared the positive experience of Russia and the best practices of the Russian Commissioner’s activity in countering domestic violence against women, and in providing opportunities for women to fully participate in the society and the state.

According to the Russian ombudswoman, the protection of women’s rights is one of the priorities of the High Commissioner’s activity.

During the meeting with President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Guido Raimondi, Tatiana Moskalkova raised several problematic issues related to increasing the openness and accessibility of the ECHR to Russian citizens. The High Commissioner proposed to create an Internet platform where citizens could receive information on the progress of the complaint.

The High Commissioner also noted that the most important guarantee for human rights protection is effectively working human rights elevators both at the state and the international levels.

According to Tatiana Moskalkova, "a sufficiently effective state human rights protection system has been created in Russia, but at the same time it is important that everyone has the hope to seek justice in an independent international judicial institution."
