October 30, on the Day of Remembrance for Political Repression Victims, a public action «The Bell of Remembrance» took place in many Russian cities.
In Moscow, the commemorative event was organized at the Wall of Sorrow memorial for victims of political repression. Participants in the action lay flowers at the monument, light candles. Also, all who come can honor the memory of the repressed by a blow to the «The Bell of Remembrance». The symbolic bell is made in the form of a chained up rail brought from the Solovetsky Islands.
The event was attended by the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova.
«Millions of people affected innocently, without trial. Their children and wives, the most diverse segments of the population — peasants and intellectuals, workers and clergy… And today, striking the memory bell, we bow low and promise that this will not happen again," Tatiana Moskalkova emphasized.
The federal ombudswoman noted that we already live in a completely different society, but we, the citizens of modern Russia, need to remember the terrible pages of our history.
