Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance Meeting

16 December 2019

On December 18, the meeting of the Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance (EOA) will be held in Moscow under the chairmanship of High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova.

The participants of the meeting will discuss the mechanisms of human rights protection in the territory of the EOA and determine the further development vector of the Alliance.

In 2019, multilateral cooperation with ombudsmen of foreign countries was significantly expanded within the framework of the new multilateral community established in 2017 — the Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance, which became a platform uniting progressive human rights forces. As a result, EOA members have established effective cooperation on ensuring, respecting and protecting human rights.

This year, the Alliance has developed new formats of interaction, including joint receptions of citizens and consultations on a wide range of human rights issues, as well as continued bilateral cooperation between the High Commissioner and the ombudsmen of foreign countries through cooperation agreements.

EOA members:
1. High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova.
2. Akyikatchy (Ombudsman) of the Kyrgyz Republic Tokon Mamytov.
3. Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia Byambadorj Jamsran.
4. Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Arman Tatoyan.
5. Islamic Republic of Iran.

Alliance members also consider the expansion of the joint reception of citizens of the EOA countries, including with the use of video conferencing, participation in joint projects (including on the creation and activities of the National preventive mechanism), the establishment of the EAO informational-accounting system on dealing with citizens appeals and the organization of thematic events on human rights issues in the EOA countries.
