Dialogue with High Commissioner. Safety first

Dialogue with High Commissioner. Safety first

In the case I’m to talk about, negligence could cost many human lives.

I received a complaint from citizen R. in defense of the rights and legitimate interests of residents of the village of Krasny Profintern of the Yaroslavl Region. According to him, since 2013 there has been an abandoned construction crane near one of the houses, which threatened the life and health of residents, while local authorities were inactive.

Taking into account the high importance of this appeal, I immediately sent a request to the prosecutor’s office of the Nekrasovsky District of the Yaroslavl Region.

According to the reply, the applicant’s arguments were confirmed: the construction crane was solely owned by an individual, and he pledged to evacuate the equipment from the residential area.

Thus, the threat to 1000 inhabitants of the village was eliminated, and now they can use the territory that was occupied by the construction crane for several years. It’s terrible to imagine what tragedy its breakdown could have resulted in, older people and children could have suffered seriously. Local governments need to understand their responsibilities. Negligence, inaction and disregard of people’s destinies are unacceptable.
