A lot of letters coming to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation contain requests for assistance in desperate situations, for example, when a single woman is left with an infant and she does not know what to do…

I was approached by citizen K., who alone brought up a little daughter. She had no accommodation, no residence registration, she did not receive State child allowance, and she did not even have money for food.

After reviewing the provided materials, I immediately sent a request to the Krasnoyarsk administration to provide possible assistance to the woman in overcoming difficulties.

According to the reply received, citizen K. was provided with social support measures for families with children: one-time allowance for the birth of a child, childcare benefits to non-working mothers in respect of children under one and a half years of age, monthly child allowance, a one-time cash payment for basic necessities for a daughter.

In addition, specialists of the «Doverie» center organized support for the mother and her child. They provided food packages, hygiene products, clothes, shoes and other assistance. The agreement with the social shelter for women «The Source of Life» was reached to provide the applicant and her daughter a possible temporary residence; an agreement was reached with the employer about the employment of K. in a municipal institution with the further provision of housing in a dormitory.

Thus, the right of the mother with the child to social protection was restored — two lives were saved. Now they have a chance to start over, together overcome all difficulties and be a happy family, I really hope so.
