Dialog with High Commissioner. Labor rights protection

13 April 2017

The High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation learned from mass media sources that the administration of LLC "Trest SZSSM", which is part of the holding company of "Promindustriya" Industrial Group, violates the employees’ labor rights. This enterprise carries out production activities for the arrangement of oil and gas fields, construction and reconstruction of grid power facilities in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Region.

According to the publications, the administration and HR personnel of the joint-stock company deliberately misled potential employees attracting them to work on a rotating basis, providing them with intentionally false information about the size and composition of wages, the duration of the watch and other essential conditions of contracts and nature of work.

Having arrived to a remote location, workers did not have any chance to refuse the job and leave, and had to sign work agreements instead of labor contracts. Besides, the payments for labor were half of the determined. That violated their rights for fair salary, for accident and health insurance, and also guarantees and compensations in the field of pensions provision and other guarantees and compensations, that are established by the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.

As a result of the Commissioner’s petition to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region an inspection for mass and gross violations of labor rights of the enterprise workers was executed. The inspection showed that wages debts were paid off, workers left fields and went home.
