Comment by the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation

I have discussed the problem of closing the nursing home in Veliky Novgorod with Commissioner for Human Rights in the Novgorod Region Anatoly Boytsev.

According to the Commissioner, everything is not quite as told in the material provided by «Yabloko»: the fact is that the building is in an emergency condition and soon will fall to ruin. The foundation has come down and the load-carrying construction is in a terrible condition.

The situation is that a disaster can happen at any moment.

Therefore, it was decided to rehouse the inhabitants of the nursing home, demolish it, and build a new modern complex for the elderly on the same site.

The Prosecutor’s office verified the legality of the decision and supported it.

During the construction of the new facility people will be settled in the dormitory block of the Ushinsky boarding house in the village of Shimsk and in one of the buildings of the Moshensk Central District Hospital. All the social services are promised to be provided in full.

Immediately after the completion of the new building, all former residents of the nursing home will be moved back.

According to M.,…
