Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Ella Pamfilova expressed her regret that Tatyana Potyaeva had been appointed under no consultations with the human rights community. The Moscow Mayor, when introducing the candidacy of Ms Potyaeva, had not followed the example of the president who held multiple consultations with the human rights and expert communities before proposing a candidacy for the approval by the State Duma.
“Of course, I congratulate the new Commissioner for Human Rights in Moscow on this appointment. However, I would like to express my perplexity with the appointment procedure itself. Unfortunately, in Moscow this procedure was of closed and swift nature, and no preliminary discussions had been held with the human rights and expert communities which is very much developed and broadly represented in Moscow,” underscored Ms Pamfilova.
It is to be reminded that 25 September, at the Moscow City Council, instead of former Alexander Muzykantskiy a new commissioner for human rights in Moscow Tatyana Potyaeva was appointed. The candidacy had been introduced by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
