Appeal of High Commissioner on International Day of Older Persons

Dear friends!

Today we celebrate the International Day of Older Persons. A third of the Russia’s population are people over 50 who, perhaps, are likely to be the most socially vulnerable part of any society.

We try to do everything possible to create an accessible environment for citizens of all ages. This year, the Office of the High Commissioner holds the third «Legal Marathon for the Elderly».

Within this enlightenment project, free legal consultations, seminars and lectures are being organized. Due to the lack of knowledge about Russian legislation, the overwhelming majority of older people often fall victims to scammers.

This year the «Legal Marathon for the Elderly» is supported by Commissioners for Human Rights in all the 85 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

Dear mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers! Your undertake the noblest mission of all — you raise your grandchildren, transfer your wisdom and traditions to them, help your children even when they have already grown up, and some of you still go to work regularly, giving an example to young professionals and inspiring them.

Let me thank you for the warmth and love you give us every day, for having once put us on our feet and taught us everything we can do now!

I wish you long and happy life and the very best of health! And may your children and grandchildren rejoice your heart!

Now she is allowed to walk in the open air, use the gym, and, most importantly, communicate with others, because before this decision, Maria spent 35 days in solitary confinement. I think that this is the end of the first stage of the struggle for total liberation…
